After completing a 10 point exam, diagnosis and treatment plan, there may be an indication for specialty care. This would include various types of gum surgery, oral surgery and/or implants done by a periodontist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon. If the nerves of the teeth show signs of infection, root canal (endodontic) therapy by an endodontist may be indicated. If the alignment of the teeth needs to be improved, referral to an orthodontist may be indicated.
Dr. Smith works closely with various specialists on your behalf. After the initial examination and diagnosis is completed, he will communicate with the indicated specialist, forward the diagnostic information and discuss a preliminary plan. This information will be communicated to you along with how it fits into the overall sequence so there is no confusion, duplication of effort or wasted time. The end result is getting the results everyone expects.
